What your computer needs
Minimum: desktop Chromium 120+, 4 GB RAM, four logical CPU threads, and 2 GB of free disk space. CPU-only WebAssembly works without a GPU, but it is slower.
Recommended for built-in AI voices: 8 GB RAM, four or more logical CPU threads, 2 GB of free disk space, and a dedicated GPU with WebGPU support and 4 GB VRAM.
On the current reference PC—a Core Ultra 9 285K and RTX 5090—a high-quality article section took 2.40 seconds on average with WebGPU and 29.53 seconds on the CPU alone. The first audio arrived after 13.28 and 64.48 seconds. These timings exclude the initial voice download. Slower hardware will take longer.
Preparing a voice
Use an internet connection when you first choose Prepare voice or Read page. Missing voice files download from Hugging Face before speech is generated on your device. Wait for preparation to finish. The same voice and processing mode can reuse cached files offline afterward. Changing voice or mode, or clearing the browser cache, may need another download. If downloading fails, check your connection and retry.
What to include when asking for help
Describe what you tried, what happened, your Chrome version, and whether PageNarrator reports GPU or CPU-only mode. Do not email private text or document URLs.
